As a designer and craft explorer, I recently had the privilege of discovering a collection of over 60-year-old Banarasi silk brocade fabric scraps, and handloom weaving remnants—each carrying the legacy of master artisans and generations of craftsmanship.

What some may see as scraps, I saw as stories waiting to be retold.

Carefully selecting and matching these rare textile fragments, I transformed them into unique art pieces that celebrate heritage, sustainability, and the beauty of handmade traditions. Every color, texture, and weave reflects the skill, patience, and creativity of the weavers who brought these fabrics to life.

This collection is my tribute to preserving craft, honoring artisans, and giving forgotten treasures a new voice through contemporary art.

This artwork is deeply connected to me and my journey as a textile and carpet designer.

The theme was “Melting Point,” and I wanted to interpret it through textiles in a way that felt emotional and personal. Instead of creating a traditional artwork, I imagined a rug portrait — a rug melting from the centre, slowly revealing the heritage hidden underneath.

For me, that hidden layer became my birthplace — Lucknow.

The colours, motifs, patterns, and detailing in this piece are inspired by the architectural beauty and cultural richness of Lucknow’s heritage. I wanted the melting area to feel like memories resurfacing — where craft, identity, and roots quietly emerge through the textile surface.

This artwork is not just about design for me.
It is about where I come from, what inspires me, and how heritage can still live through contemporary textile art.

This artwork is dedicated to Indian women rooted in traditional craftsmanship, particularly those who weave on strap loom (based out Nagaland (India), Through their skill and dedication, they create beautiful fabric yardages that not only reflect their artistry but also sustain their livelihoods.

All of my work is a tribute to women and their enduring contributions. In this piece, I have portrayed the loom in a three-dimensional form to evoke a realistic look and tactile presence, allowing the viewer to truly feel its essence.
